Working in health care has been my desire since I was a young boy. My desire did not come for a desire to become wealthy, like many others. Unfortunately, my dream of becoming a doctor came from attending funerals. By the time I was 10 or 11, I had already gone to at least 5 funerals. Each person had been a relative of mine. My Aunt Theresa’s passing had been the one that stuck with me most. She was diagnosed with cancer, and it didn’t take long before she was gone. Her passing was so impactful because I witnessed the last few days of her life. Cancer was an unforgiving, son of a _____ that stole every ounce of my aunt’s life. And since that day, I wanted to become a doctor to end the type of suffering that my Aunt Theresa experienced.

I enlisted in the US Army, as a medic, shortly after 9/11, and I felt that I was well on my way to becoming a physician. However, I did not realize the time and financial commitment involved in pursuing that career. Money was scare while growing up. In fact, I can remember counting pennies, quarters, and dimes with my mom and brother just to buy a meal. I worked by way through college. So, I did not have the time to shadow doctors or intern as a researcher.

I started this site once I discovered that I could apply everything that I learned in leadership, sales, and business development to finance my own medical school education.
